“I want a therapist who gets me!”
Wouldn’t it be great to work with a therapist who you don’t have to explain your identity to?
Navigating LGBTQ+ identity, relationships, and life experiences can feel complex enough without also wondering whether you’ll feel truly seen, understood, and comfortable with your therapist. At Horizon Therapy, we provide gender-affirming and sexuality-affirming therapy for members of the LGBTQ+ community, including individuals who identify as queer, gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, non-binary, questioning, and more.
We strive to co-create a warm, open, and respectful space where you can share what matters most to you, explore your experiences authentically, and move towards greater self-understanding, acceptance, connection, and well-being.
We’d love to connect with you!

The challenges you face as part of the LBGTQIA2S+ community can affect you in very real ways. Here are some of the most common challenges we can help you with:

Being at different phases in your transition journey, maybe on pause at times, while keeping in connection with your body, emotions, and spirit.
Relationship issues
Learning along the way which people in your life are open who you can feel safe to be honest and free with, and accepting which are just not able to support you.
Identity issues
Uncertainty about who you are and what’s true for you while having to manage expectations of what others would like you to be.
Confidence & self esteem
Receiving the message that you should be different than you are or be “normal” can seriously impact how to feel about yourself and your place in the world.
Fear of coming out
Concerns about sharing the news of your identity with others, how they will respond, and whether they will still love and support you.
Family challenges
Dealing with the impact of family members who may not understand or support you, or are blatantly homo or trans phobic.

Questions People Ask about
LGBTQ+ Therapy
As a parent, how can I best support my child?
Children can often challenge our belief systems and values, and in this way they may help us grow. The fact that you are interested in this question means you have already stepped onto the path of supporting your child. Listening with interest, being curious, patient, and open to learning about your child’s journey are the most important aspects of what your child needs from you. Validating their feelings and reminding them of your unconditional love will help them feel less anxious and alone. Booking a few sessions with one of our therapists can help support you to process your experiences, and improve communication, and the relationship with your child.
Why do I still feel anxious or depressed even after transitioning?
Many transgender people expect that transitioning will solve all emotional challenges, but mental health struggles can still exist afterward. Stress from discrimination, family conflict, social pressures, or past experiences can continue to affect wellbeing. Therapy can help process these experiences and support emotional healing alongside identity affirmation.
How do I do if people misgender me or disrespect my identity?
Being misgendered can feel deeply invalidating and painful. Some people find it helpful to correct others calmly when they feel safe doing so, while others focus on building supportive environments where their identity is respected. Working with a therapist can also help develop strategies to protect your emotional wellbeing and process the hurt that may arise.
Why do I still struggle with my body or dysphoria?
Gender dysphoria can change over time and may not disappear completely after social or medical transition. Some people continue to experience discomfort with certain aspects of their body or how they are perceived by others. Supportive therapy can help you explore coping strategies, build self-compassion, and develop a healthier relationship with your body.
How do I find communities that understand me?
Support comes from therapists experienced with LGBTQ+ individuals, peer groups, online communities, and educational resources. Finding spaces where you feel seen and validated can reduce isolation and help you thrive personally and socially.
What if I'm unsure about my identity?
This is totally fine and not knowing is common! Some people are clear about their identities and have already come out. If you are unsure about your identities and would like to explore this, we can support you to get to know yourself, and overtime help you become more clear, grounded, and authentic in who you are and how you live your life. It is also possible that you are a person who doesn’t want to have a particular identity, and this is okay too!
What kinds of things do people talk about in therapy?
LGBTQ+ issues are human issues. In therapy, you can talk about whatever is bothering you and is on your heart and in your mind! It is a safe space for you to discuss issues like relationships challenges, feeling down and anxious, family conflict, identity and transitioning, discrimination, and adverse childhood experiences.
Do you work with neurodiversity, ADHD, or autism?
Yes! We provide specialized support for LGBTQ+ individuals who are neurodivergent, including those with ADHD, Autism, OCD, or other neurodiverse traits. Neurodiversity can affect how you experience relationships, communicate, manage stress, and navigate identity, and these experiences can be unique within LGBTQ+ communities.
In therapy, we focus on creating a safe, affirming space where your neurodiverse needs and LGBTQ+ identities are fully recognized. We help you build strategies for communication, self-advocacy, emotional regulation, and relationship navigation, while exploring how your experiences as a neurodivergent LGBTQ+ person shape your connections and sense of well-being.
Do you offer LGBTQ couples therapy?
Yes! We provide a safe, affirming, and nonjudgmental space for LGBTQ+ couples to explore the unique challenges in their relationships. Together, we work on improving communication, resolving conflicts, and understanding each other’s perspectives, while fostering trust, emotional intimacy, and deeper connection. Our approach is tailored to honor your identities, experiences, and relationship goals, helping you grow stronger as a couple and navigate life’s ups and downs together.
Will you tell my parents if I come out in therapy?
Absolutely not. This is your decision to make and your choice to talk or not talk about yourself and your identities to people in your life, including your family. If you choose to tell people in your life, and would like support with this, we will help you work towards doing so in a way that feels safe and comfortable for you.
