With over twenty five years of clinical experience in mental health working in both private practice and hospital settings I offer a strong mix of approaches that will best support your personal needs and life situation. My work integrates Relational, Psychodynamic, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Somatic Trauma Informed Practices, Attachment Based Family Therapy, and Emotion Focused Therapy. Therapy assists with increasing self awareness, self worth and acceptance, and building skills that improve relationships, mood, and management of life’s stressful situations. As the quality of the therapeutic relationship is essential, I strive to create a warm and safe environment for therapy to occur. Clients often share that they appreciate my warm, empathic and direct approach. Through therapy clients often discover a sense of greater clarity, connection, meaning, peace, and freedom in their lives.

When working with families who have teens or young adults, my work is informed by Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT).  ABFT is a research based therapy and I have found this model to be beneficial for helping parents and youth repair ruptures and develop more emotionally secure relationships which helps to decrease depression in young people. A family commitment of between 14-20 sessions is required.

In couples therapy, I utilize a combination of training from the Couple’s Institute Developmental Model, Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, Relational, and Psychodynamic approaches.

Hello! I’m Tyler, Registered Social Worker with a Master of Social Work (MSW) and post graduate training in individual, couples, and sex therapy. Finding a therapist that you can connect with is critical to getting the support you are looking for. At the heart of my work is a client-centred approach which emphasizes respect, compassion, and authenticity. My work integrates the importance of how culture, race, sexual orientation, and gender expression influence you and your life. No two circumstances are the same, so together we can explore how your unique lived experience shapes your emotional reality.

I support individuals and couples experiencing a wide range of concerns related to relationships, communication, emotional and sexual intimacy, self esteem, depression, life transitions, bereavement, trauma, and anxiety. I have a special interest in working with couples, neurodiversity, 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, immigrants, and high performance sports. My therapeutic approach is informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples (EFT), Gottman Method, the Developmental Model for couples,  Assessing and Treating Sexual Issues in Psychotherapy (ATSIP), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) within an attachment oriented, relational, psychodynamic, and trauma informed lens.

The combination of my therapeutic approaches as well as my relaxed yet direct personality will help you explore your inner world, be more present and empathic with self and others, make more meaningful and authentic choices, and cope better with the day to day stressors of life. I look forward to the possibility of working together!

The roads have been colourful and the path winding! My own healing journey started with Gabrielle Roth’s 5 Rhythms where stories of joy, shame, trauma and grief danced to the surface. The journey deepened through my three year psychotherapy training at the Transpersonal Therapy Centre (TTC) completed in 2008 integrating the teachings of Carl Jung, Gestalt Psychology, Reichian Therapy and Eastern Traditions of Buddhist Meditation and Sri Aurobindo. Drawing on these practices my work involves creating space for individuals and groups to safely explore the subconscious, illuminate both the shadow and the light that lives within each of us, and explore how life’s challenges are often a gateway to self- realization.

As an intermediate and high school teacher of 25 years, I also work with teens as they navigate the many challenges of this transformative age.

Disclaimer: Please note I do not practice the controlled act of psychotherapy which may address serious emotional, cognitive or behavioural disorders.
